With the HD Motion project part of the EDIH – European Digital Innovation Hub and funded by MIMIT under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Radiolabs has established itself as a key player in supporting the digital transformation of the mobility sector. The goal of HD Motion – aimed at businesses and public administrations – is to fill training gaps and help test new technologies in the field, reducing the costs and risks they face to speed up adoption.
In particular, Radiolabs has focused on satellite technologies, which play an increasingly strategic role in the environmental and economic sustainability of new investments in connected and autonomous driving aimed at improving safety – one of the priorities at the European level – and accessibility for all citizens. Thanks to satellite technologies, it is indeed possible to reduce infrastructure investments along roads and railways, with great benefits in terms of energy demand reduction.

During the project, Radiolabs, also thanks to the contribution of the Universities of L’Aquila and Roma Tor Vergata (members of the Radiolabs consortium), developed a catalogue of 27 training courses that were delivered in dedicated sessions. The topics include high-integrity satellite positioning based on multi-sensor architectures, multi-bearer communication systems including the new low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations, cybersecurity, and digital twin solutions applied to transport systems. ANAS and RFI, respectively Infrastructure Manager of national roads and railways, were the main participants in the courses, with around 230 attendees, highlighting the importance of satellite technologies for the evolution of road and rail transport infrastructures.
Radiolabs also contributed to the Test Before Invest activities, providing SMEs with its expertise, labs, and infrastructure for experimenting with innovative technologies. Through these services, Radiolabs’ team of specialists enabled SMEs to test their own satellite localization and multi-sensor data processing technologies, offering access to labs that are among the most advanced in Europe. These include a mobile lab for field data acquisition and the P-CAR lab – a strategic infrastructure located in the Tecnopolo of l’Aquila sustained by ASI – for independent simulation and validation with HW/SW in the loop of proprietary solutions for connected and autonomous mobility.
