Green Light to the ROADMAP project for the digital maps with high accuracy and integrity

Radiolabs has signed a contract with the Italian Space Agency (ASI) for the development of the ROADMAP project – Realization Of Automotive Digital Map for Autonomous Positioning – conceived and designed by Radiolabs. ROADMAP aims to design and implement a framework for generating a high-accuracy Smart Road Digital Map (SRDM) with quantified integrity, supporting safety-critical Smart Road services. The SRDM will provide a reliable representation of road geometry and road semantic elements, accompanied by uncertainty metrics and confidence intervals on position.

The reference scenario is ANAS’s future Smart Road, which contributes to the project as a reference user by providing its know-how and the data collected by the high-performance “Mobile Mapping” system called CARTESIO, developed by ANAS, for the collection of data recorded by GNSS, Lidar, and optical sensors to survey road characteristics and related infrastructures. ROADMAP is the first project for the “safe” digitalization of roads and benefits from Radiolabs’ know-how acquired in the railway sector, promoting synergy and technology exchange with impacts primarily in Italy, contributing to the evolution towards connected and autonomous transport.

The project is a further component of Radiolabs’ multi-year plan to develop and validate enabling technologies for autonomous driving, with a particular focus on satellite technologies, which are strategic for the transport sector and capable of stimulating competitiveness and scientific expertise, on which future growth will depend. This growth will be driven by safer and more sustainable mobility, a priority issue for the European Commission.

Activity carried out under the ASI contract (Contract No. 2025-73-I.0) within the framework of the ASI program “I4DP_MARKET (Innovation for Downstream Preparation for Market).
