RAMPS (Railway Augmented Multisensor Positioning System) is a research project that aims to demonstrate how satellite navigation could be used as part of the management and control systems of high-speed railway traffic, improving the level of safety and efficiency of this rail service in the operational phase called Start of Mission.
To achieve this objective RAMPS determines the position of the train without exploiting the physical and at the same balise is designed to be compatible with existing elements of the ERTMS / ETCS system. For that, RAMPS will be using synergistically some innovative technologies  and European Satellite Navigation of the infrastructure, minimizing both the infrastructure to be developed from scratch, and the impacts of the pre-existing and then ensuring backwards compatibility with what is already operational.
